My name is Joshua Sharkey and I am the CEO & Founder of GGEZ. GGEZ is an information services company aimed at providing SaaS (Software as a service), I(P)aaS (Integration platform as a service), and custom development with an emphasis on integration, security, and suitability.

SaaS and other public cloud services are growing at a blinding rate. With a card deck of an aging workforce and unfilled jobs, and a shortage of skills, leaders are forced into spending hundreds of thousands of dollars to tackle new complex workloads.

Cloud services allow companies to outsource their infrastructure, applications, and support to others to meet fast-growing workflow demands. SaaS has solved many problems for companies but also presents the risk of making mistakes that produce unwanted results in SaaS, which we will explore in this and future posts.

Why SaaS?

For all companies alike, the benefits of using a SaaS are clear:

  1. Cost Savings
  2. Scalability
  3. Accessibility
  4. Time Savings

These benefits can be enticing to buyers, but they are not guaranteed. Without the proper preparation, purchasing a SaaS can become a nightmare. Not doing a good enough job researching and verifying requirements is a common mistake that buyers too often make.

Integration

Integrability is one of the most important factors to consider. Software tools with poor integration force the user’s hand to implement drastic workflow changes, retrain employees, and wrangle data for migration. Buyers should ensure that there is sufficient integration or migration support between the in-house process and the out-house SaaS or negotiate contracts that include assistance with this. All of this must be done before making a decision to purchase. Doing this helps prevent duplication of work and reduces setup time, maximizing the value of adopting a SaaS.

Security

Businesses are liable to protect the information of their customers. There is a growing and everlasting need to ensure the proper security controls exist that protect data, regardless of where that data is stored. Crudely speaking — with each new SaaS comes a new potential attack vector into your on-premises systems and data. Security solutions, if not proactive enough, can be very costly for businesses to fix, and getting hacked only adds insult to injury. Buyers must ensure that the SaaS they consider understands this and take the appropriate steps to protect client data for all stages of the buying process.

Suitability

All said these ideas are not uncommon. Ideally, the best option for finding a solution suitable to solve your company’s problem is to develop it yourself. We know that is not always possible. However, nothing is worse than wasting money on something that does not meet your needs. That is why GGEZ focuses on what companies’ needs are in a SaaS and aims at providing the functions and integrations with the most value to customers, regardless of the use case.
